What is an Electric Stimulation (E-Stim) Device?

E-Stim devices, like the TeslaMax 4, are biofeedback devices that are used for measuring body response, and re-education for symptoms such as:

  • muscle spasms
  • disuse atrophy
  • preventing venous thrombosis
  • and more!

Muscle stimulation is commonly used for people who may have atrophying muscles, constant muscle spasms, or to prevent blood clotting in the calf muscles after a surgery. It’s also used to improve circulation.

Most electric stimulation devices utilize DC power, which can create heat and friction on the skin, create a “pins-and-needles” sensation, and can be uncomfortable and painful for most users.

Why Choose the TeslaMax 4 for Electric Muscle Stimulation

Uses Alternating Current: The Tesla-Based Technology™ in the TeslaMax® uses alternating current (AC) instead of Direct Current (DC).

With DC output, electricity in a wire travels in only one direction. This can create heat and friction in the skin, which can lead to pain and discomfort if the settings are too high. Because of this, DC muscle stimulators can only be run at low levels, which creates only weak muscle contractions.

With AC output, the electricity regularly switches directions. An alternating current reduces friction and heat in the tissues, allowing for more electricity to be delivered to the muscle without pain or discomfort.

Higher Voltage, Lower Amperage: The AC electricity in the TeslaMax comes in the form of higher voltage at a lower maximum average amperage. This allows electricity to travel through the skin with much less resistance. Less resistance means you can get more muscle stimulation without pain or discomfort.

Does AC Power Matter When Using Electric Muscle Stimulation?

TeslaMax® Strong Muscle Contractions: Patients can tolerate deeper contractions longer when the electrical stimulation going through their soft tissue is AC instead of DC. Using Tesla-Based Technology™, the TeslaMax is able to output high voltage at a very low average amperage. With such a high volt to milliamp ratio, you can get very deep muscle contractions with no patient discomfort whatsoever. The increased contractions lead to increased perfusion, oxygenation and circulation to treatment areas, which have shown to vastly improve patient outcomes.
